The purpose of this Act is to leverage volunteer engagement to supplement projects that are carried out by the Secretaries to fulfill the missions of the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management and are accomplished with appropriated funds.

Prior Provisions

A prior section 558a, Pub. L. 92–300, § 1,
May 18, 1972, 86 Stat. 147; Pub. L. 103–82, title IV, § 405(d), Sept. 21, 1993, 107 Stat. 921, authorized the Secretary of Agriculture to recruit, train, and accept volunteers in the National Forests Program, prior to the general amendment of the Volunteers in the National Forests Act of 1972 by Pub. L. 118–234. A prior section 2 of Pub. L. 92–300,
May 18, 1972, 86 Stat. 147, was classified to section 558b of this title, prior to the general amendment of the Volunteers in the National Forests Act of 1972 by Pub. L. 118–234.
