The Secretary must start a pilot program no later than 2 years after January 4, 2025 to partner with eligible groups to do three things: measure high-priority trails as part of the required assessment under section 8482, build accessible trails under section 8484, and make small changes to existing trails so people with disabilities who use assistive devices have better recreational experiences. Projects must follow federal land use and management plans and be done with input from stakeholders, including veterans’ groups and disability-outdoor organizations. The Secretary must pick at least 5 units or subunits to take part. The pilot must include at least one site managed by the National Park Service, the Bureau of Land Management, and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. The pilot ends 7 years after January 4, 2025.
