Title 18 › Part PART I— - CRIMES › Chapter CHAPTER 119— - WIRE AND ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS INTERCEPTION AND INTERCEPTION OF ORAL COMMUNICATIONS › § 2513
If an electronic, mechanical, or other device is made, sold, carried, used, or advertised in a way that breaks sections 2511 or 2512, the U.S. government can seize it and keep it. The same rules in Title 19 about seizing and forfeiting ships, vehicles, goods, and baggage apply to these devices when they fit and do not conflict. That covers seizure and court forfeiture, what happens to the items or sale money, reducing or canceling forfeitures, settling claims, and paying informants. Duties normally done by a customs collector will instead be done by officers or agents the Attorney General names.
