Conformity assessment procedure — any way of checking that rules or standards are met. Federal agency — an executive or military department, a government corporation or government-controlled corporation, or an independent establishment. International conformity assessment procedure — a checking procedure adopted by an international standards organization. International standard — a standard made by an international standards organization. International standards organization — a group open to U.S. representatives and all Members that works on international standards. International standards-related activity — making or changing international standards or checking procedures. Member — a WTO member (see section 3501(10)). Private person — a U.S. citizen or national, or a legal entity organized under state law. Product — any natural or made item. Secretary concerned — Commerce for nonagricultural products, Agriculture for agricultural products. Trade Representative — the United States Trade Representative. Standard — an approved document giving rules or guidelines for products or processes; not mandatory and may cover terms, symbols, packaging, markings, or labels. Standards-related activity — developing, adopting, or using standards, technical regulations, or checking procedures. State — any State, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam, and other U.S. territories or possessions. State agency — a department, agency, or instrumentality of a State or its political subdivisions. Technical regulation — a mandatory document that sets product features or how they are made, and may cover terms, symbols, packaging, markings, or labels. United States (geographic) — all States.
