Starting with the fiscal year that ends September 30, 2006, any unspent money in the Secretary of the Senate’s contingent fund that has not been withdrawn under section 4107 may be used, if the Senate Committee on Appropriations approves, to pay for buying, conserving, restoring, copying, or replacing art, historical objects, documents, and related exhibits. The money can also pay for public education about the collection and for the Senate Commission on Art’s administrative or transition costs. These payments can cover expenses no matter when they were incurred. All items paid for this way are called the “United States Senate Collection.” Payments must be approved by the Chairman or the Executive Secretary of the Senate Commission on Art.
