The Board must hire an independent public accountant to do a yearly audit of its finances and of any corporation set up under section 806(i). The accountant must be allowed to look at any books, papers, records, or agent files that the accountant thinks are relevant to the Congressional Award Program. By May 15 each year, the Board must send the audit results to the appropriate officers, committees, and subcommittees of Congress and to the Comptroller General of the United States, including any extra areas the accountant says need review. The Comptroller General will review each audit, may inspect any related records or the auditor’s files, and must report the review results to Congress within 180 days after getting the Board’s report.
