Title 20 › Chapter CHAPTER 43— - AMERICAN FOLKLIFE PRESERVATION › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER II— - VETERANS’ ORAL HISTORY › § 2142
The Director of the American Folklife Center must set up an oral history program to record video and audio interviews of veterans who served during a period of war and of close family members of service members who were missing in action or died because of their service. The program must also collect letters, diaries, and similar written items. These recordings and papers must be organized with a catalog and index and made available to the public through the Library of Congress’s National Digital Library and other ways the Director finds practical, as resources allow. The Director may work with other government or private groups and consult interested people. The program must start as soon as practicable after October 27, 2000, and should try to record the oldest veterans first. "Immediate family member" means a parent, spouse, sibling, or child.
