Title 20 › Chapter CHAPTER 68— - NATIONAL EDUCATION REFORM › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER VII— - SAFE SCHOOLS › § 5962
The Secretary must give competitive grants to eligible local school districts to pay for projects that help make schools safe and free from violence. Each grant can last no more than two fiscal years and can be up to $3,000,000. When possible, grants should go to districts in both rural and urban areas. The law authorizes $50,000,000 for fiscal year 1994 to fund this program. Each year, the Secretary may set aside up to 10 percent of that authorized money for national activities under section 5966, and 50 percent of the set‑aside must be available that year to run the program described in section 5966(b).
