Using the designated appropriated funds, the Institute must fund and run sound scientific research and related work, such as statistics, program evaluations, and development, either directly or by giving grants, contracts, or cooperative agreements. It must also share the results widely, help others use and build on the findings, strengthen the nation’s ability to do and spread this research, coordinate research across the Department and the federal government, and support using research to improve classroom teaching.
