Title 22 › Chapter CHAPTER 32— - FOREIGN ASSISTANCE › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER I— - INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT › Part Part IX— - International Disaster Assistance › § 2292
Authorizes the President to send U.S. help to other countries, international groups, or private aid organizations to relieve suffering and assist recovery after natural or manmade disasters. The help can include relief, rebuilding, disaster preparedness, and planning for future disasters. All of this is done under the limits in section 2292a and can be provided even if other laws might seem to restrict it. The President may also provide emergency food aid as money, transfers, vouchers, or locally or regionally bought food and food products. That money is called the International Disaster Assistance – Emergency Food Security Program. The aid must, as much as possible, reach the people who need it most.
