§2292a Authorization of appropriations

Title 22 › Chapter CHAPTER 32— - FOREIGN ASSISTANCE › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER I— - INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT › Part Part IX— - International Disaster Assistance › § 2292a

Last updated Apr 6, 2026|Official source

Summary

Congress allows up to $3,905,460,000 each year for fiscal years 2024 through 2028 for the President to carry out section 2292. Up to $1,757,457,000 of that yearly amount may be used for activities under section 2292(c). These funds remain available until spent. In addition, up to $50,000,000 per year can be charged to other related appropriations to provide assistance under the same authorities, and later appropriations for a disaster can repay those accounts. Funds for 2292(c) are additional to other money. The money is meant to give the President the greatest possible flexibility to meet, prepare for, and lessen the effects of natural and man-made disasters, and Congress does not intend other law changes to limit that flexibility. By March 1 of each fiscal year, the President must report to the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, the Senate Committee on Appropriations, the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, and the House Committee on Appropriations about the prior year’s activities under section 2292(c), including amounts provided, intended beneficiaries, monitoring and evaluation, and expected and, when possible, actual outcomes.
