The Attorney General must appoint, and the President must approve, an Assistant Attorney General for Administration to do the tasks the Attorney General gives them. The job is in the competitive service, and, despite section 901 of title 31, United States Code, that Assistant Attorney General is the Department of Justice’s Chief Financial Officer.
