The Secretary of the Interior may grant an exclusive permit, under rules he sets, to prospect for certain potassium salts (chlorides, sulphates, carbonates, borates, silicates, nitrates) on U.S. land for up to two years and 2,560 acres; lands near Searles Lake, California are excluded and may be leased under this subchapter.
