Title 33 › Chapter CHAPTER 15— - FLOOD CONTROL › § 701b–1
Gives the Department of Agriculture the power to carry out certain river and watershed improvement projects that had been handled by the Army under the Chief of Engineers. These projects are to slow runoff, control water flow, and prevent soil erosion, and must follow plans approved by the Secretary of Agriculture. The Secretary of Agriculture may also order emergency runoff and erosion work if fire or other natural forces suddenly damage a watershed to protect lives and property. Not more than $300,000 may be spent on such emergencies in any one fiscal year. Up to $10,000,000 is authorized for the work, to be spent at $2,000,000 per year over the five-year period ending June 30, 1944. Work may include the Rio Grande and Pecos River watersheds, subject to the proviso in section 701b.
