Title 37 › Chapter CHAPTER 5— - SPECIAL AND INCENTIVE PAYS › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER I— - EXISTING SPECIAL PAY, INCENTIVE PAY, AND BONUS AUTHORITIES › § 314
Allows certain service members who extend an overseas tour to get extra money. To qualify, a member must be on basic pay, have a job specialty the Secretary names, have finished a tour at a location outside the continental United States the Secretary names, and sign an agreement to extend that tour for at least one year. When the Secretary accepts the extension, the Secretary decides whether the member will get monthly special pay (up to $80 per month) or an annual bonus (up to $2,000). The Secretary must tell the member which one and fix the payment rate when accepting the agreement; the rate cannot change during the extended tour. A bonus may be paid all at once or in installments. If a member who received a 12‑month bonus stops the agreed tour during that 12‑month period, they must follow the repayment rules in section 303a(e). If the member chooses a benefit under 10 U.S.C. 705(b) for the extension, they cannot get the $80‑per‑month special pay for that extension period.
