You can have lapsed U.S. Government life insurance reinstated if all other rules are met, you apply within two years after the policy lapsed, and your disability was caused or made worse by injury or disease while on active military or naval duty from April 6, 1917 to July 2, 1921. You must, while alive, give proof the Secretary accepts that you are not totally and permanently disabled and pay all missed monthly premiums with 5% per year interest, compounded annually, on each. Premium liens under section 304 of the World War Veterans’ Act, 1924 keep accruing 5% per year compound interest and are deducted from any insurance settlement.
