Title 38 › Part PART I— - GENERAL PROVISIONS › Chapter CHAPTER 9— - SECURITY AND LAW ENFORCEMENT ON PROPERTY UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF THE DEPARTMENT › § 903
The Secretary can pay a uniform allowance to Department police officers who are required to wear a prescribed uniform while working. The amount paid is whichever is less: the current figure set by the Office of Personnel Management or the Department’s estimated or actual cost from surveys, and no officer may get more than that in a fiscal year. Officers hired on or after October 1, 2010 get the allowance at the start of employment; others get it when they request it. If an officer leaves less than one year after getting the allowance, they must repay a prorated share based on how many months they actually worked in the following 12‑month period. An officer cannot get this allowance and the one under section 5901 of title 5 in the same fiscal year.
