Under section 5375 of title 5, the Secretary of the Smithsonian, the Trustees of the National Gallery of Art, and the Trustees of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (or their designees) can name some employees as special police without extra pay to police their buildings and grounds. These special police may enforce and arrest for violations of sections 6302 and 6303, rules under section 6304, and other federal or state laws and rules on those properties. They may also, with the U.S. Park Police, enforce laws for the National Capital Parks and make arrests for sections 6302 and 6303 inside the outer curb lines of the squares that contain those properties. Those special police may be given uniforms and other needed equipment at no charge, including badges, revolvers, and ammunition.
