Summary

Sets penalties for breaking the rules in sections 6302 or 6303 or a rule made under 6304. A person can be fined under Title 18, jailed for up to 60 days, or both. These cases are usually prosecuted in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia by information filed by the U.S. Attorney or an Assistant U.S. Attorney. If the violation causes more than $100 in property damage, jail time can be up to five years and the case is prosecuted in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia by indictment. The U.S. Attorney may instead proceed by information if the defendant, after being told the charge and their rights, waives indictment in open court.
