Summary

Create a grant program to pay for projects that modernize the electric grid. The projects must use technology to better monitor local distribution lines, improve controls, and help predict how the system will perform. To qualify, a project must aim to make the future grid work better and use energy more efficiently while keeping power safe, secure, reliable, and affordable. It must also show secure integration and management of two or more energy resources (for example: distributed generation, combined heat and power, microgrids, storage, electric vehicles, efficiency, demand response, or smart loads) and show secure, interoperable communications and information technology.
