Summary

The Director must work with the Secretary of Energy, the Director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and leaders of other federal research agencies when running the Directorate. The Director must, as much as possible, avoid repeating work done by other parts of the Foundation or other agencies and must coordinate with the interagency working group established under part D of subchapter VI and other agency heads so the Directorate’s work adds to, not duplicates, existing efforts and uses funds responsibly. After the Secretary of Commerce finishes the studies on emerging technologies under title XV of division FF of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 (Public Law 116–260), the Director must consider the study results when planning and carrying out the Directorate’s activities.
