Title 42 › Chapter CHAPTER 23— - DEVELOPMENT AND CONTROL OF ATOMIC ENERGY › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER XVII— - ENFORCEMENT OF CHAPTER › § 2282
The Commission can fine a person up to $100,000 for breaking certain licensing, certification, or related rules named in the law. If the bad behavior keeps going, each day counts as a separate violation. The Commission can also settle, lower, or cancel those fines. Before fining anyone, the Commission must send a written notice by registered or certified mail to the person's last known address. The notice must say when and what happened, point to the specific rule broken, and name the penalty the Commission plans to impose. The person gets a chance to respond in writing within a reasonable time set by the Commission’s rules. The notice will say that unpaid fines can be collected in court. If needed, the Attorney General can sue to collect the fine and has the sole power to settle, reduce, or cancel fines he is asked to collect.
