Summary

The Secretary, through the CDC Director, must create an advisory committee to help prevent and control injuries. The Secretary may also give technical help to public or nonprofit groups to plan or run programs under this part, either directly or by grants or contracts. By February 1, 1995, and every two years after, the Secretary must send the House Energy and Commerce Committee and the Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee a report on the prior two fiscal years, including work on violence within families and among acquaintances and work in rural areas.

(a)The Secretary, acting through the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, shall establish an advisory committee to advise the Secretary and such Director with respect to the prevention and control of injuries.

(b)The Secretary, acting through the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, may provide technical assistance to public and nonprofit private entities with respect to the planning, development, and operation of any program or service carried out pursuant to this part. The Secretary may provide such technical assistance directly or through grants or contracts.

(c)Not later than February 1 of 1995 and of every second year thereafter, the Secretary, acting through the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, shall submit to the Committee on Energy and Commerce of the House of Representatives, and to the Committee on Labor and Human Resources of the Senate, a report describing the activities carried out under this part during the preceding 2 fiscal years. Such report shall include a description of such activities that were carried out with respect to interpersonal violence within families and among acquaintances and with respect to rural areas.

The report shall include— “(1) information regarding the practical applications of research conducted pursuant to subsection (a) of section 280b of this title, including information that has not been disseminated under subsection (b) of such section; and “(2) information on such activities regarding the prevention and control of injuries in rural areas, including information regarding injuries that are particular to rural areas.” 1992—Pub. L. 102–531 substituted “Centers for Disease Control and Prevention” for “Centers for Disease Control” in introductory provisions. 1990—Pub. L. 101–558 amended section generally.
