The Director of the Institute may expand, focus, and coordinate research on congenital heart disease. That work can cover causes (including genetics), how people do over time from infants to the elderly, diagnosis, treatment and prevention, studies that follow people over time or analyze past records to find what works, and finding barriers to lifelong care. The Director may link multiple research centers and build research networks and must consider how the research applies to minority and medically underserved communities.
