Title 42 › Chapter CHAPTER 6A— - PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER III— - NATIONAL RESEARCH INSTITUTES › Part Part C— - Specific Provisions Respecting National Research Institutes › Subpart subpart 12— - national institute of environmental health sciences › § 285l–5
Research about the causes, diagnosis, treatment, control, or prevention of physical or mental diseases in people or animals — including work that uses biotechnology — is not covered by these rules. Federal agencies keep the final say on whether to use test methods ICCVAM recommends. Companies not now required to do animal tests do not have to start them or repeat endpoint-specific tests. Anyone may send a test method or scientific data directly to a federal agency for use in a regulatory program.
