The Secretary can give grants or make contracts so accredited schools can award scholarships. These scholarships help mid-career public and allied health workers enroll in degree or professional training programs to get more training. An eligible entity is an accredited school that offers public or allied health programs. Eligible individuals are people working in public or allied health jobs for Federal, State, tribal, or local employers who want to improve their education. Congress authorized $60,000,000 for fiscal year 2010 and whatever sums are needed for fiscal years 2011 through 2015. Fifty percent of the money must go to public health mid-career professionals and 50 percent must go to allied health mid-career professionals.
