Title 42 › Chapter CHAPTER 6A— - PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER XVII— - BLOCK GRANTS › Part Part B— - Block Grants Regarding Mental Health and Substance Use › Subpart subpart iii— - general provisions › § 300x–57
Programs and activities that get these federal funds must follow federal civil-rights rules. They cannot discriminate because of age, disability, sex (including pregnancy), race, color, national origin, or religion. If the Secretary finds a state or other recipient broke these rules, the Secretary will notify the state’s top official and ask for fix. If the official does not fix the problem within a reasonable time, not more than 60 days, the Secretary can ask the Attorney General to sue, use powers from the civil-rights laws, or take other lawful actions. The Attorney General may bring a federal court case to stop the discrimination and get other relief.
