Summary

Defines three key terms used in this part of the law. Community referral services are agency-run help that connects families to information, mutual support, and local resources, for example respite care, health and mental-health services, job training, and early child screening, by hotlines or other methods. Community-based, prevention-focused programs are local family programs and networks (like family support, home visiting, respite, parenting education, and peer support) that work to prevent or respond to child abuse or neglect. Respite care services are short-term care, including crisis nurseries, when the regular caregiver is temporarily away for children who are at risk of abuse or neglect, who have been abused or neglected, or who have disabilities or chronic or terminal illnesses.
