§6625 Coordination of international science and technology partnerships

Title 42 › Chapter CHAPTER 79— - SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY POLICY, ORGANIZATION AND PRIORITIES › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER II— - OFFICE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY POLICY › § 6625

Last updated Apr 6, 2026|Official source

Summary

The Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy must create a group inside the National Science and Technology Council to find and guide international science and technology partnerships that strengthen U.S. science, help the economy and national security, and support U.S. foreign policy. The group will be co‑chaired by senior officials from OSTP and the Department of State. It will plan and coordinate agency projects and training, work with other NSTC committees, set federal priorities to align international S&T work with foreign policy, look for new partnership opportunities, ask for advice from non‑federal groups (like universities, industry, and societies), and spot barriers to U.S.-foreign collaboration. The Director must send a report every two years to the Senate Committees on Commerce, Science, and Transportation and on Foreign Relations, and to the House Committees on Science, Space, and Technology and on Foreign Affairs, and must post each report on the OSTP website. The group ends 10 years after January 6, 2017. The Director must also send, within 60 days after January 6, 2017 and every year after that, a report to the same four committees listing all foreign travel by OSTP staff and detailees.
