Title 43 › Chapter CHAPTER 46— - GEOSPATIAL DATA › § 2809
Implementation date: the day that is 5 years after standards for each National Geospatial Data Asset data theme are set. After that date, covered agencies must not spend Federal money to collect, make, buy, keep, or share geospatial data that does not meet those standards, as the Committee decides. They may keep and share noncompliant data only if the data was created before the implementation date. The Committee’s Chair can give a waiver if an agency asks. The agency must ask at least 30 days before the implementation date and explain why, show a plan to meet the standards, and give the date it will be compliant. From when the standards are set until the implementation date, agencies should, as much as possible, follow the standards.
