Title 43 › Chapter CHAPTER 16— - SALE AND DISPOSAL OF PUBLIC LANDS › § 687c
Allows the Secretary of the Interior to lease U.S. public land in Alaska for fur farming to U.S. citizens, groups of citizens, or corporations formed under U.S. or state law. Leases can cover up to 640 acres and last up to 10 years. For islands, the Secretary may allow up to 30 square miles. The Pribilof Islands are excluded. Leases follow rules the Secretary makes. Mineral prospecting, development, leasing, or patenting can still occur under the laws that apply. Every permit or lease must keep the Secretary’s right to allow parts of the land to be used for catching, processing, storing, or selling fish as allowed by laws now or passed after July 3, 1926.
