Title 46 › Subtitle Subtitle II— - Vessels and Seamen › Part Part G— - Merchant Seamen Protection and Relief › Chapter CHAPTER 105— - COASTWISE VOYAGES › § 10509
If a seaman does not get on board at the agreed time and did not give 24 hours’ notice, they lose pay. For each hour they are late they forfeit half a day’s wages, but that deduction is taken only if the lateness is entered in the ship’s official logbook that same day. If a seaman never reports or deserts the ship, they lose all wages. The rule does not apply to fishing or whaling vessels or to yachts.
