On the day an offense listed in section 11501 occurs, a logbook entry must record it and be signed by the master and the chief mate or another seaman. Read it to the offender before arrival if at sea, or before departure if in port and the offender remains. Give a copy, allow a reply, record reply and signatures. If those entries aren’t produced, court may refuse evidence.
