Title 46 › Subtitle Subtitle II— - Vessels and Seamen › Part Part J— - Measurement of Vessels › Chapter CHAPTER 145— - REGULATORY MEASUREMENT › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER I— - GENERAL › § 14504

Last updated Apr 6, 2026|Official source

Summary

The Secretary must remeasure a vessel covered by this chapter when needed if one of four things happens: the Secretary or the owner says the original measurement was wrong; the vessel or how its space is used changes enough to greatly affect its tonnage; the vessel was measured under subchapter III but becomes subject to subchapter II; or the vessel was measured under subchapter II even though not required and the owner asks for a subchapter III measurement. Except as provided here and in chapter 143, a vessel that has already been measured does not need to be remeasured to get another document or endorsement under chapter 121.
