The Board can require railroads, their lessors, and companies that supply railcars to keep records in specific forms, including items about traffic, money, and the cars or services. Board staff with proper ID can visit and look at facilities and copy records from carriers, lessors, related companies, or car suppliers when the Board set the record form. The Board also decides how long those operating, accounting, and financial records must be kept.
