Title 5 › Part PART III— - EMPLOYEES › Subpart Subpart D— - Pay and Allowances › Chapter CHAPTER 51— - CLASSIFICATION › § 5111
The Office of Personnel Management can stop or pause an agency’s power to put jobs into classes and grades if the agency is not following the published standards. While the power is stopped, the agency may have to get OPM approval before any job classification takes effect. OPM can limit this to parts of an agency, a region, certain units, certain kinds of classification actions, particular job groups or grades, or jobs without published standards. OPM can give the authority back when it is sure future job placements will follow the published standards.
