Title 50 › Chapter CHAPTER 10— - HELIUM GAS › § 167a
Allows the Secretary to make deals with private companies to recover and dispose of helium found on Federal land. The Secretary can give lease rights to that helium. The Secretary must not sell the helium to anyone except a private company that has such a recovery and disposal deal. Those deals can follow rules the Secretary sets and must respect any federal oil and gas lessee rights that existed before the deal. The Secretary can add terms to deals and to any renewals. Deals already in effect on October 9, 1996 stay as they are unless they are renewed or extended after that date. The Secretary may store, move, and sell helium only under this law. All money received from selling helium on Federal land must go into the Helium Production Fund created by law.
