§1703 Consultation and reports

Title 50 › Chapter CHAPTER 35— - INTERNATIONAL EMERGENCY ECONOMIC POWERS › § 1703

Last updated Apr 6, 2026|Official source

Summary

The President must, whenever possible, talk with Congress before using the powers in this law and must keep talking with Congress while those powers are being used. When the President uses any of these powers, he must immediately send Congress a report that explains the situation, why it comes entirely or mostly from outside the United States and is an unusual and serious threat to national security, foreign policy, or the economy, what powers and actions will be used and why, and which foreign countries are involved and why. At least once every six months after that first report, the President must tell Congress what actions were taken since the last report and any changes to the earlier information. These reports are in addition to the reporting rules in the National Emergencies Act.
