The President, with the Senate's approval, must appoint a Principal Deputy Administrator who has strong management experience and can oversee the Administration's programs for nuclear weapons, infrastructure construction and upkeep, nonproliferation, and materials disposition to protect national security. Under the Administrator's direction, the Principal Deputy must carry out assigned duties, coordinate the agency's parts, and act with the Administrator's authority if the Administrator is disabled or the post is vacant.
