Title 54 › Subtitle Subtitle III— - National Preservation Programs › Chapter CHAPTER 3051— - HISTORIC LIGHT STATION PRESERVATION › § 305106

Last updated Apr 6, 2026|Official source

Summary

If no applicant is approved to take a historic light station under sections 305101 through 305105, the light station must be put up for sale. The Administrator must write the sale terms. Those terms must follow the rules in paragraphs (1)–(4) and (8) of subsection (a), and subsection (b), of section 305104. The transfer papers must protect the station’s historic character and make sure any Federal aid to navigation there stays operated and cared for by the United States as long as needed. Money left after the sale must go where the law says. If the station is on public domain land, the proceeds go to the National Maritime Heritage Grants Program under chapter 3087 in the Department of the Interior. If the station is under the Secretary of Homeland Security’s control, the money must be credited to the Coast Guard’s Operating Expenses account and may be used to maintain Coast Guard light stations. Those funds stay available until spent and are in addition to the Coast Guard’s regular Operating Expense funds.
