Defines important words used in the chapter. It explains who or what the rules apply to and what key words mean. Person: an individual, partnership, corporation, or association. Secretary: the Secretary of Agriculture. Meat food products: any edible product or byproduct from slaughtering and meat packing. Livestock: cattle, sheep, swine, horses, mules, or goats, alive or dead. Livestock products: products or byproducts from livestock other than meat. Poultry: chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, and other domestic farm birds. Poultry product: any product from slaughtering or processing poultry. Poultry grower: someone who raises poultry for another person to slaughter, not the owner’s employee. Poultry growing arrangement: a contract or agreement where a grower raises poultry under another’s instructions for slaughter. Live poultry dealer: a business that gets poultry to slaughter or sell for slaughter when the birds or products move in commerce. Commerce: trade or movement between states, territories, the District of Columbia, or places outside them. Swine contractor: a person who gets swine under a swine production contract to slaughter or sell for slaughter when the swine or products move in commerce. Swine production contract: any contract where a grower raises swine under another’s instructions. Swine production contract grower: a person who raises swine following another person’s directions.
