Regulates trades that cross state lines or national borders and that help people manage price risk, find prices, or share price information by trading in liquid, fair, and financially secure markets. Its goal is to protect the public by requiring strong self-regulation of trading venues, clearing systems, market firms, and professionals under the Commission’s oversight. It must stop price manipulation and other attacks on market integrity, keep transactions financially safe to avoid systemic risk, protect participants from fraud and misuse of customer assets, and encourage responsible innovation and fair competition.
