Title 7 › Chapter CHAPTER 89— - PECAN PROMOTION AND RESEARCH › § 6001
Creates a national program, paid for by fees on pecans grown or imported into the United States, to promote pecans, fund research, and share information with the industry and consumers. The program’s goals are to strengthen the pecan industry, keep and grow domestic and foreign markets, and find new uses for pecans. Congress found that pecans are a native American nut and an important food. They are grown by thousands of producers, shelled and processed by many businesses, and eaten by millions here and abroad. Pecans need good quality control, handling, and marketing. State groups already do useful promotion, research, and education work. Pecans are sold across state lines and to other countries, and even pecans sold only within a state affect interstate trade. The program must not control how many pecans anyone grows or stop anyone from producing pecans.
