Veterinary import and diagnostic fees rise
Starting January 10, 2025, USDA APHIS is updating user fees for veterinary diagnostic services and for import/export services for live animals, animal products, birds, germplasm, organisms, and vectors. If you work with live animals or animal products that cross borders, expect new fees that are intended to better match the cost of the work involved.
Fees protect animal import/export services
APHIS says the adjusted fees pay for quarantine services, import permit processing, port-of-entry inspections, facility approvals, endorsements of export certificates, and emergency services. The agency says the fee changes are needed to keep these services solvent and to avoid disruptions to animal and public-health related services.
Fees set by average effort, not business size
APHIS will set fees based on the average level of effort to provide each service (the direct time factor) and will not charge different fees based on the size of an organization or volume of use. Fees may differ by species or by whether a service is simple or complex.
APHIS posts fee cost data online
APHIS is making the source cost data used to calculate the fees available for download at www.aphis.usda.gov/business-services/vs-fees. The agency says the files must be downloaded before viewing because of their size.
