College Graduates May Be Contacted

About 161,000 people who are college graduates may be contacted for the 2025 National Survey of College Graduates. Data collection is expected to begin in March 2025 and continue for about six months, using web and mail questionnaires, and responding is voluntary.

Time Burden and Response Estimates

The survey is estimated to take about 23 minutes on average to complete and NCSES expects a 60 to 65 percent response rate. Over the three-year OMB clearance period, NCSES estimates the average annual burden will be no more than 13,372 hours.

Confidentiality and Public Data Use

Responses will be treated as voluntary and will have confidentiality protection under applicable Census Bureau statutes. NCSES will publish a public release file that is designed to protect respondent confidentiality and make national estimates and congressionally mandated reports available online.

30-Day Comment Window; Item Requests

The notice opens a 30-day public comment period for the proposed 2025 NSCG information collection, and several commenters urged adding a sexual orientation question. NCSES said it will use the Census Bureau's American Community Survey sexual orientation research findings, when completed, to inform future NSCG data collection plans.
