Analyzed Economic Effects
2 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.
Truth or Consequences gains local TV service
The FCC proposal would move channel 12 from Silver City to Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, making Truth or Consequences the community of license. Truth or Consequences (2020 Census population 6,053) currently has no television allotment, so the change would deliver a first local over-the-air service and provide service to over 10,000 people who now live in a television "white area" without any full-power over-the-air signals.
Silver City allotment removed but service preserved
The proposal would delete channel 12's allotment at Silver City (2020 Census population 9,704) and substitute it at Truth or Consequences, but FCC staff notes Silver City would not lose existing service because KKAB has not yet begun operations and Silver City would continue to be served by sister station KKAD. The permittee would modify its construction permit to specify Truth or Consequences as the community of license.
