Options Will Trade on Three Ethereum ETFs
You will be able to buy and sell exchange-listed options on the Grayscale Ethereum Trust ETF, the Grayscale Ethereum Mini Trust ETF, and the Bitwise Ethereum ETF once the Exchange lists them. The Exchange filed the proposal on February 5, 2025 (Amendment No. 1 on February 6, 2025) and the SEC is soliciting comments following publication on February 26, 2025.
Contract Specs: Expirations and Strike Rules
Options on the Ethereum ETFs may be listed with weekly, monthly, or quarterly expirations and may include long-term equity options (LEAPS) that expire 12 to 39 months after listing. Strike price intervals will be $1 or greater when the strike is $200 or less and $5 or greater when the strike is over $200; minimum quote increments will be $0.05 for series priced under $3.00 and $0.10 for series priced $3.00 or higher (with penny-interval program exceptions).
Physical Settlement and American-Style Exercise
Options on each Ethereum ETF will be physically settled contracts with American-style exercise, meaning exercised options result in delivery of the ETF shares and can be exercised any time up to expiration. This affects what you receive or must deliver if you exercise or are assigned on an option contract.
Position and Exercise Limits Set at 25,000 Contracts
The Exchange proposes position and exercise limits of 25,000 same-side option contracts for each Ethereum ETF option. The Exchange compared these limits to higher thresholds that could apply based on trading volume but proposes 25,000 as the default limit.
