CFM Engine Owners Must Swap Faulty Turbines for Safety

Published Date: 3/4/2025

Rule

Summary

The FAA is making a new rule for certain CFM LEAP engines because some turbine disks didn’t meet quality standards. If you have these engines, you’ll need to replace specific turbine parts to keep flying safely. This fix helps prevent engine problems and keeps everyone safe without delay.

Mandatory LPT Disk Replacement for LEAP Engines

If your aircraft uses CFM LEAP-1A, LEAP-1B, or LEAP-1C engines, the FAA requires removal and replacement of the low-pressure turbine (LPT) stage 4 and stage 5 disks. This AD was issued because some LPT disks were made from forgings with a nonconforming grain size, and the replacement is intended to address the unsafe condition and keep aircraft safe.
