UN Model Regulations may be implemented starting 2029

The United Nations Sub-Committee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods will consider proposals for the 25th Revised Edition of the UN Model Regulations, which the notice says may be implemented into relevant domestic, regional, and international regulations starting January 1, 2029. Stakeholders who want to influence those possible future regulatory changes are being invited to comment at the 2025 public meetings.

Four 2025 PHMSA public meetings announced

PHMSA will hold four public meetings in 2025 to get input before international meetings: in advance of ICAO DGP WG/25 (April 21-25, 2025, Delhi, India), UNSCOE TDG session (June 30-July 4, 2025, Geneva, Switzerland), ICAO DGP/30 (October 6-10, 2025, Montreal, Canada), and a meeting tied to the UNSCOE TDG session scheduled November 24-December 3, 2024, in Geneva, Switzerland. These meetings let businesses, transporters, and the public give feedback on proposals PHMSA will present to international standards bodies.

Remote participation and registration details

Each public meeting will take place about two weeks before the related international meeting at DOT Headquarters (1200 New Jersey Avenue SE, Washington, DC) and a remote participation option will be available. PHMSA will post specific meeting dates, times, remote access logins, conference dial-in numbers, and advance registration details on its website under "Upcoming Events."
