Published Date: 3/20/2025

Rule

Summary

Starting June 12, 2025, the FAA is updating several air routes near Cincinnati, KY, because they’re turning off the old Cincinnati VOR navigation system. This means some airways will change, and one (V-19) will be removed. Pilots flying in this area will use newer navigation tech, and these changes won’t cost anyone extra but will make flying safer and more modern.

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 3 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

Cincinnati VOR Decommissioned; Airway Changes

Starting at 0901 UTC on June 12, 2025, the FAA will decommission the VOR portion of the Cincinnati (CVG) VORTAC and amend VOR Federal Airways V-5, V-47, V-97, V-128, V-275, and V-517 and revoke V-19. Pilots flying in the affected area will use newer navigation technology and the FAA says these route changes are intended to keep air navigation current and safe.

RNAV Route T-315 Extended as Mitigation

U.S. RNAV Route T-315 is extended westward from the JIMUR, KY Fix to the Brickyard, IN VORTAC so T-315 will run between Brickyard, IN (VHP) and Burlington, VT (BTV). The FAA states this amended T-315 provides mitigation for the V-128 airway segment removed between the Brickyard, IN, VORTAC and the Cincinnati, KY, VORTAC.

No Significant Economic Impact on Small Entities

The FAA certified that this rule is a routine technical amendment and "does not have a significant economic impact on a substantial number of small entities" under the Regulatory Flexibility Act. The FAA determined the anticipated economic impact is minimal.
